what is Pellowah? My first-hand experience and honest review

If you’ve been searching for an honest Pellowah review or wondering what actually happens in a Pellowah session, this is my first-hand experience. I share what Pellowah claims to do, what the treatment felt like, and whether I noticed any real changes afterwards.

Leaving my bed before 9am on a Saturday is really not my vibe. But working 9–5 means that when I want to try out a new spiritual treatment, weekends are when I have the most time to attend, process, and integrate.

So, on a crisp November morning, I zipped up my winter jacket tight and made my way to my first Pellowah experience.

It’s not something I sought out for myself, but rather a treatment my partner had stumbled across while searching for a local practitioner who offered sound healing. We were both instantly intrigued when we read the description of Pellowah, as well as the slightly mystical nature of the treatment and its creator.

what is Pellowah?

It was created by Australian-based energy healer, Kachina Ma’an, who channelled the energy that later became named Pellowah.

She has no online presence from what I can see, so for that reason it’s actually pretty tricky to find verified information about Pellowah energy. However, one of her close friends and mentees, who works directly with her, has defined Pellowah as follows:

“The word ‘Pellowah’ refers to a ‘radical shift in consciousness,’ which is the main goal of this healing practice. Pellowah is a high-vibration energy technique that aims to help people find better balance, awareness and a sense of wholeness. Unlike other healing methods, it doesn’t target specific physical problems. Instead, it focuses on healing the whole person — mind, body and spirit.”

how does Pellowah work?

According to the source above, your first Pellowah session connects all 12 strands of your spiritual DNA and activates them. Once connected, these strands can never be broken.

As a result, clients report receiving a “permanent boost in letting in new information, seeing the world from a higher perspective, and developing a natural defence against negativity.” I couldn’t verify these claims scientifically, but I approached the session with curiosity rather than belief.

What with it not being a mainstream treatment, I struggled to find many case studies outlining the benefits people have seen from Pellowah (hence me writing this review!) But I was hooked by the promise that I might experience “huge shifts immediately following a session”, although to be fair, people say the effects can just as likely be very subtle, unfolding over time.

For me, the thing that attracted me most to the treatment was the idea of a radical shift. I’ve lived through some personally significant internal and external changes over the last four years, and although I’ve seen myself grow a lot, and deepen my spiritual connection, I had some specific ‘blocks’ that I seemed to be circling without ever managing to fully push through.

Namely, the fear of being ‘seen’ online (and in real life) in connection with my spiritual work. I won’t go into the whole story here, (she says right before going off on a tangent) but essentially I went from having the confidence to speak about my writing and books on live radio, recording podcasts, hosting weekly writing groups, sharing a big chunk of my life in public, and sometimes for major publications, to feeling frozen and unable to share anything of myself.

A few years ago, when I was publicly talking about mental health through my writing, I was in a heterosexual marriage. Now, I’m an out and proud lesbian, and I think it’s been a lot to ask of myself to experience the vulnerability of being ‘out’ not just to myself for the first time, but with rest of the world, too. Then, add in that I am now publicly talking about spiritual matters instead of mental health, and, well, that has felt extra anxiety inducing.

what to expect from a Pellowah session

Pellowah can be done in person or remotely, but as it was a new treatment for me, I wanted to experience it face-to-face to see if it would maximise the experience. When I arrived at the house, the practitioner led me to a beautiful little treatment room at the end of her garden. Within ten minutes or so, I had filled out a disclaimer form, gotten comfy on a heated bed, wrapped in a weighted blanket , ready for my treatment.

It’s worth noting that the setting for Pellowah sessions is quite specific — no music, no candles, no incense — and I was instructed to wear an eye mask so that I was in complete darkness.

Pellowah is a hands-off treatment so, essentially, I just lay there for an hour while the practitioner did her energy work above and around my body. People sometimes report receiving messages, hearing noises, seeing images or shapes, or feeling sensations during their Pellowah session while others may feel nothing or fall asleep.

my experience during a Pellowah session

My experience of energy work varies greatly depending on the practitioner, the setting, and my life circumstances — and I think that’s true for most people. For example, I would be surprised if someone told me they had the exact same physical sensations, images, or messages every single time they received Reiki. I’m sure it’s not unheard of, but I don’t believe there is one universal experience.

In the past, I’ve had wild visions during energy work. Sometimes I’ve felt like I’m floating or disconnecting from my body; other times I’ve gone into a dream state or been visited by deceased relatives with messages to share.

But I’ve also had plenty of treatments where I don’t feel much at all. When I give Reiki to others, they report warm sensations. When I give Reiki to myself, I mostly feel nothing. But I’ve always believed

So, what was Pellowah like? It was certainly relaxing, but you could probably say that about any energy treatment that allows you to lie on a heated blanket for the best part of an hour.

I didn’t see any visions or hear any voices. My experience was more linked to physical sensations, but those sensations weren’t delivering spiritual insights or messages. I was simply aware of energy moving through my physical and energetic body.

And, the sensations changed throughout the treatment. For a good chunk of time, I could feel energy in my right hip (which made sense to me, as my sense of stability — often linked to the root chakra — has felt shaken). Later, I felt waves of energy rippling more generally throughout my body, as though it was intentionally pulsing through my whole being in order to create change.

When she gently brought me back into the room afterwards, gave me water, and talked a little about what she had been working on she mentioned some very specific issues I’ve been experiencing (a bit too private to share here), and that felt validating — as though she (or perhaps more accurately, the Pellowah) had known how to treat the blocks I had already suspected were at the root of my fear of being seen.

what it felt like after Pellowah

I have to admit, I felt pretty good leaving the session. I wandered through the leafy streets to meet my partner and felt a lightness that was noticeably different from how I’d felt beforehand.

In the days that followed, nothing dramatic happened. But there were subtle shifts in my self-perception.

Pellowah is said to get to the root of issues, and for me, that root feels tied to shame. So any small shift related to shame is significant for me. (Shame isn’t just an emotion — it’s a lens through which you see the world, as I’ve written about before.)

In the days after the session, I began posting more online about Sunflowers and Stars. I wasn’t scheduling TV appearances or anything dramatic, but I noticed myself sharing more on Instagram without the usual fear or hesitation. That was exactly what I’d been hoping for.

For over a year, I’d known I needed to update my website photographs to reflect the changes I’ve been through. But it hadn’t felt doable while I was frozen in that fear of being seen. Soon after my Pellowah session, I came across a photographer I loved and booked a shoot for a few weeks later. Not only did the session give me photographs that represent who I am now, but the act of creating them helped me reclaim control of the narrative. I built a website I’m genuinely proud of — and that made it easier to keep being visible, creating positive forward momentum.

Around 10 days after my Pellowah session, I also noticed a shift in how I reacted to being triggered — specifically, dissociation, which something I’ve lived with on and off for years as a trauma response. Normally, I don’t realise I’m dissociating until it has passed. This time, I was able to be fully present within it (as paradoxical as that sounds), observing it from a calmer, higher vantage point rather than being completely consumed by it. I was able to see the protective nature of the response and allow it to pass without panic.

does Pellowah actually work?

There are so many factors at play here that it’s impossible to prove causation between Pellowah and the changes that followed. I can’t say whether it was the energy itself, the intention I set, or simply the permission I gave myself after having the session. But something shifted.

The change wasn’t radical in a dramatic, cinematic sense. It was quiet. Incremental. But real, and, for me, effective nonetheless.

Frequently asked questions about Pellowah

Q: what is Pellowah?

A: Pellowah is an energy healing modality created by Australian energy healer Kachina Ma’an. The word “Pellowah” is said to mean “radical shift in consciousness”. It is described as a high-vibration energy technique that works on the whole person (mind, body and spirit) rather than targeting specific physical symptoms.

Q: how does Pellowah work?

A: According to its teachings, a first Pellowah session connects and activates 12 strands of spiritual DNA. Practitioners say this creates a permanent energetic shift that allows greater awareness, clarity, and perspective.

During a Pellowah session, the practitioner works hands-off around the body while the client lies down in silence, usually wearing an eye mask. There is no massage, music, or physical touch — the treatment is entirely energetic.

Q: what happens during a Pellowah session?

A: In my experience, a Pellowah session lasted around an hour. I lay on a heated treatment bed, wrapped in a blanket, while the practitioner worked above and around my body.

Some people report seeing visions, receiving messages or feeling strong sensations. Others feel very little or fall asleep. There doesn’t appear to be one universal Pellowah experience.

For me, the session was deeply relaxing. I felt waves of sensation move through my body, but I did not experience visions or messages.

Q: does Pellowah work immediately?

A: Pellowah is often described as creating immediate, radical shifts. However, subtle shifts are also commonly reported.

In my case, the changes were not dramatic or cinematic. Instead, they were incremental — a noticeable lightness, reduced fear around being seen, and a shift in how I experienced dissociation. The effects unfolded gradually over days rather than instantly.

Q: is Pellowah scientifically proven?

A: There is currently very limited scientific research available on Pellowah. I was unable to find clinical studies verifying its claims.

As with many energy healing modalities, reported benefits are based largely on personal experiences rather than scientific evidence. Anyone considering Pellowah should approach it with curiosity and discernment.

Q: what are the benefits of Pellowah?

A: Reported benefits of Pellowah include:

  • Increased clarity and awareness

  • A shift in perspective

  • Emotional release

  • Greater sense of calm

  • Feeling “lighter” or more aligned

In my personal Pellowah experience, the benefits were subtle but meaningful, particularly around shame and visibility.

Q: are there any side effects of Pellowah?

A: Pellowah is generally described as a gentle, non-invasive treatment. I did not experience any negative side effects.

Some practitioners say clients may feel tired, emotional, or reflective in the days following a session. As with any healing modality, experiences vary from person to person.

Q: can Pellowah be done remotely?

A: Yes, Pellowah can be offered both in person and remotely. Many practitioners believe distance does not limit the effectiveness of the energy work.

I chose to attend my first Pellowah session in person, but remote sessions are widely available.

Q: how many Pellowah sessions do you need?

A: Some practitioners say one session is enough to activate the 12 strands of spiritual DNA permanently. Others recommend follow-up sessions for deeper integration.

I have only had one Pellowah session so far, and the shifts I experienced followed that single treatment.

Q: who is Pellowah for?

A: Pellowah may appeal to:

  • People interested in energy healing

  • Those who feel emotionally or spiritually “stuck”

  • Individuals open to subtle shifts rather than dramatic change

  • People already familiar with Reiki or similar modalities

It may not suit those looking for medically validated treatment or immediate, measurable results.

Q: would I recommend Pellowah?

A: Yes – with caveats.

If you are open to energy work and comfortable exploring modalities that aren’t scientifically verified, Pellowah may be worth trying. My experience was calming and subtly transformative rather than dramatically life-changing.

It is not a replacement for therapy or medical treatment, but it may complement other forms of personal development.
